Crying Out with the Multitude

Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.” —Revelation 19:6

When I think of crying out, my mind goes to crying out in need, but we also have the wonderful privilege of crying out with praise. Revelation 19:6 looks forward to the day when believers all around the world will join together in heaven crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.”

What a glorious day it will be when the voices of the multitude build together like thunder in praise to God! Can you even imagine? Like the sound of a massive waterfall, the praise of God will ring in our ears.

We don’t have to wait until then to join heaven’s choir. The word “hallelujah” means “Praise the Lord!” It’s a universal word, the same in multiple languages. I don’t think that’s a coincidence. All around the world believers are praising the faithful covenant-keeping God with the same word: Hallelujah!

When we cry out with praise, we join together with our brothers and sisters everywhere. Whether we’re by ourselves or in a crowd, our praise does not rise alone. Even now the seraphim surrounding God’s throne are continually crying out with praise: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” (Isa. 6:3).

Some days it may feel like you’re the only one still praising God, but you are not alone. In every language, on earth and in heaven, the enemy is silenced when we worship God. The flesh is subdued and the Spirit wins when we cry out with praise. What a privilege it will be to hear the thunderous praise of the multitude in heaven, but what an honor it is to join with them today.

How to Pray

Praise the LORD!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
   praise him in his mighty heavens!
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
   praise him according to his excellent greatness!
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD!
(Ps. 150:1-2, 6)

What to Pray

  • Spend some time praising God today. Praise Him for His excellent character. Praise Him for His faithfulness. Praise Him for His marvelous works.
  • Join with the angels in crying out, “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
