Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. —Psalm 42:5–6

Our hope:
I have hope because Jesus will make all things right and joyful again.

Can you sympathize with the psalmist’s heartache?

"My tears have been my food day and night. . . . I say to God, my rock: 'Why have you forgotten me?" (Ps. 42:3, 9).

If so, there is True Hope in Jesus for you today. You don’t have to despair. He has given you all you need to choose praise, as our psalmist friend did:

"Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God" (Ps. 42:5–6).

Friend, Jesus—your God—is also your salvation! He will make all things right and joyful again. Even if your worship feels half-hearted and transient, it’s a rehearsal of that certain joy to come. So today, relying on God’s grace, sing in the night (v. 8) . . . and perhaps, eventually, your heart will join in.

Reflect and Respond:

Read Psalm 42.

  • What are you looking forward to Jesus making right when He returns?
  • As you hope for this, how practically can you choose to praise Him today?
  • Is there a specific truth you can encourage your heart with, as the psalmist did?
