Dannah Gresh: When she was one-and-a-half years old, Sue Thomas lost all her hearing, but that didn’t stop Sue’s mother from giving her piano lessons. Sue could feel the music through her fingers.

Sue Thomas: It was so interesting to feel the vibrations . . . different vibrations, all over where I played. But as a kid, the novelty wore off. I would get up early, even when I was five, to play football with my brothers. And my mom would get me and drag me back to the piano.

Dannah: Those moments weren’t just about piano. This mom was instilling in her daughter a hope for her future.

Sue: She would take my chin in her fingers and tilt my head so I could read her lips and say, “Someday you’re gonna thank me for this!” And I thank God for her!
