Who’s the Greatest?

July 12, 2021 Robyn McKelvy

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” —Matthew 19:14

In Matthew 18, the disciples asked Jesus this question: “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” (v. 1). Jesus’ response was probably a little different than they imagined.

And calling to him a child, [Jesus] put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” (vv. 2–4)

We’ve got to see children the way God sees them. And one thing about kids—they’re carefree. They totally believe their father! That’s the same way the Lord wants us to be. He wants us to be carefree, totally believing He’s got it.

If we can look at that life of a child and the heart of a child and become like that, we enter the kingdom of heaven. It’s a beautiful thing.
