The Way of Love

July 13, 2021 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

Let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding. —Romans 14:19

What does it look like to be in a church that truly shows love to one another? The apostle Paul lists several characteristics in 1 Corinthians.

If there’s love, Paul says, we will mourn over sin in the Body of Christ, and, when necessary, we will exercise discipline with the goal of the person who has sinned being restored.

In a community where there is love, we will build each other up. We will edify each other and limit our own personal freedoms (if need be) in order to do so. We won’t do anything, even if it’s scripturally permissible, if it might cause someone else to stumble in their walk with God.

If we’re walking in the way of love, we’re going to choose the pathway of a servant. We will flee idolatry and immorality.

When we walk in the way of love, we will seek the best interests of others. We will do all for the glory of God, and we will seek to please others rather than to please ourselves.
