There’s Life in His Word

This is my comfort in my affliction: Your promise has given me life. —Psalm 119:50

Throughout Psalm 119, we find moments where the psalmist described periods of affliction and intense trial. Yet he had found a glorious consolation—that there is life in God’s Word. Despite the pain and anguish he had experienced, God’s law filled him with life.

While the psalmist was insulted by the proud, he stood firm and didn’t stray from God’s Word. What God thought of him was more important than the foolish words of his scoffers; his confidence was in the unshakable Rock. His heart was filled with indignation to see how the wicked abandoned God’s law.

Amid all this, the psalmist chose to sing praises to God. He knew this earth was not his home, so he raised songs saturated with God’s promises. And even in the dark of night, he remembered the name of the Lord. He expressed the hope that comes only from the security that is in God. God’s promises are yes and amen (2 Cor. 1:20). We must not doubt His answer while we wait.
