The Guardian of Peace

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning. —Psalm 130:5–6

Psalm 130 is kind of a twin passage to Psalm 131 that expands on the concept of hoping in the Lord. Living out Psalm 130 helps us to fulfill Psalm 131:3.

Verses 5–6 paint a picture of the night watch- man looking for the first ray of dawn or a mother with a crying baby waiting for morning to come. This is how our souls wait for the Lord.

O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
and with him is plentiful redemption. (v. 7)

There is so much in this world that could keep us from having a quiet heart. That’s why we need these reminders from Scripture to fix our hearts on God. He guards our peace no matter what the world holds in front of us. He is the only One who is unshakable. We don’t have to fear the storms that come our way because our hope is not of this world.

Make it Personal

Spend time thanking God that while everything else in this world will let you down, you can always depend on Him.
