A Daily Exercise

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. —Psalm 103:2

It can be difficult to be thankful throughout the big and little problems of daily life, but the Lord has shown me several practical ways I can choose to exercise gratefulness.

One way I do this is by choosing to be content whatever my situation (Phil. 4:12–13). Content- ment is one of the best weapons against the murmuring and complaining voices that the enemy plants in our minds when we are going through a difficult situation.

Contentment is not an overnight quality, however, but a process. To learn it, we need the practice of going through valleys of shadow and death, as well as periods of abundance and joy.

I also choose to raise the flag of gratitude every day in the environment where the Lord has positioned me. Instead of focusing on life’s challenges, I have memorized Psalm 103:1–5. Every day when I open my eyes, it’s the first thing I express, filling my heart and my environ- ment with the powerful Word of God.

Make it Personal

Meditate on Psalm 103:1–5 throughout the day, and pray that these truths would help you to cultivate a heart of thankfulness.
