Spiritual Nourishment

September 15, 2020 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” —John 6:35

Oswald Chambers exhorts: “Read the Bible, whether you understand it or not, and the Holy Spirit will bring back some word of Jesus to you in a particular set of circumstances and make it living.”

In much the same way, the spiritual value and growth we receive from the Word will be evident not so much from one day to another but when we look back over a period of months or years and realize how it has shaped and molded our lives. (It’s equally true that the effects of poor eating habits are not usually seen over- night; the consequences of a poor spiritual diet may not be immediately apparent—but they definitely will be evident in the long run.)

Therefore, when you come across portions of Scripture that seem to make no sense or have no apparent value, don’t give up. And don’t conclude those portions are worthless. God’s Spirit is feeding you the bread of heaven, and it will nourish you in ways you don’t now know.

Make it Personal

Thank God for how He has nourished you through His Word over time—and how He will continue to do so.
