Overflowing

May grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. —2 Peter 1:2

After detailing the “ingredients” we need to add to our faith, Peter follows it up by saying, “For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure” (v. 8). He is suggesting that these qualities, in a sense, became yours once you came to faith in Christ.

However, Peter says it’s not enough to possess these qualities; you need to be progressing in them. They need to be super-abundant in your life so that they will overflow.

In 1 Thessalonians 4:1, Paul said to the Thessalonians, “We ask and encourage you . . . that as you have received instruction from us on how you should live and please God—as you are doing—do this even more.” Overflowing. Super-abounding. Increasing.

As you look at these qualities, are you progressing? Do you have more of them today than a year ago? Are you committed to developing more of them in your life this coming year so the spiritual life of God within you would overflow to others?

What practical steps can you take to grow in the qualities of 2 Peter 1 so they will begin to overflow onto others?
