You give them drink from the river of your delights. For with you is the fountain of life. —Psalm 36:8–9
The river mentioned in Psalm 46:4 is a fascinating and powerful motif that runs throughout Scripture, from the opening chapters of Genesis to the last chapter of Revelation. It is a picture of God’s presence and grace that sustains us and makes our lives blessed and fruitful.
Sometimes we feel like the river of God is just a little, tiny trickle running through our lives or even that the river bed has gone dry. But when we go to God’s Word, we’re reminded that God “gives [us] to drink from the river of His delights.” With Him is the fountain of life— there’s no dryness there.
Some of us have some desperate circumstances in our lives right now. Be encouraged by the truth that there’s no lack to the river of God. It’s always full. It’s full when you’re empty; it’s full when you run dry. And that river can run through your life by faith if you will allow Him to be the full supply that you need.
