Read through the Bible, Day 293

Good morning. When Jesus returns to His hometown, He teaches in the synagogue and reads a messianic passage from Isaiah, declaring that God’s promise of salvation is being fulfilled in Him. While His gracious words initially amaze the people, they soon become enraged when He emphasizes God’s blessing for the Gentiles.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

Luke 3–4

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

How have you experienced misunderstanding or rejection from those closest to you? How does Jesus’ own experience with rejection shape the way you respond?

Heaven had never been closed to Him. Jesus had never forfeited acceptance with God. But there at the Jordan, He received the anointing of the Holy Spirit and the spoken blessing of His heavenly Father. This is the point that launched Jesus into His earthly ministry. —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
