Read through the Bible, Day 292

Good morning. Luke begins with portraits of two people who initially respond to God’s plan in different ways. Notice how Zechariah’s initial response contrasts with Mary’s humble faith, and see how the Lord uses both to fulfill His promises and share the glorious hope surrounding Jesus’ birth.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

Luke 1–2

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

As you read Zechariah’s prophecy, what stands out to you about God’s faithfulness and the hope He brings?

Zechariah, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, was speaking of far greater enemies than mere political oppression. He was speaking of salvation from the ultimate enemies—sin, death, and Satan. —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
