How Early is Early?

Woman: I see a lot of scriptures that talk about waking up early to spend time with God. But how early is early? Does that mean I have to wake up at 5:00?

Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: I don’t know what “early” means for you, but I’ll tell you what it means for me.

I work out of my home, and for me early means the time before texts start flying, before I dive into my email. If I haven’t met with God by that time, it becomes almost impossible for me to find a quiet time, a quiet place, or a quiet heart for the rest of the day. After that point, I’ve lost the most precious time of the day, and my devotional time will generally be fragmented at best.

When in your day do the distractions and pressures start rushing in? If you can, why not take some time tomorrow and meet with God in prayer and in His Word before you get too busy?

As the psalmist said, “In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice” (Ps. 5:3).

With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
