Tuning Your Heart

September 3, 2020 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

The Lord God has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary. —Isaiah 50:4

Much as a musical instrument needs to be tuned to an absolute pitch before it can make beautiful music, so must my heart be “tuned” to God’s heart. Over the years, I’ve used various means to get my heart in tune with His.

The words of Isaiah 50:4 have often helped. Many times, even before getting out of bed in the morning, I’ve meditated on this passage and prayed it back to the Lord.

“Lord God, You are my Lord. I want You to reign in my life this day. I know that today You will bring people into my life—family, friends, coworkers, people I don’t even know—who are weary and need a word from You to sustain and encourage them. I won’t know how to speak the words they need to hear unless You first instruct me.”

With my heart tuned, I open the pages of that wondrous Book, expecting to encounter its Author and be transformed in His presence.
