True Security

February 14, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

Therefore we will not be afraid, though the earth trembles and the mountains topple into the depths of the seas. —Psalm 46:2

Mountains and earth—we think of these things being solid and unshakable. But in Psalm 46:2, we see a picture of chaos and catastrophe as they crumble and give way.

Nothing on this earth, including the earth itself, is secure. Things we thought were steady, unshakable, and secure can and will change.

We can read this on a personal level in terms of jobs, income, friends, marriage, children, your house. All these can change in a moment. We also see this on a broader scale throughout history with the rise and fall of governments, rulers, and political parties.

We all come to points in our lives when the things we thought were most sure and enduring prove not to be so. It’s a reminder that we will never find security in any earthly refuge.

The truth is that only God is unshakable. Only He is completely reliable, faithful, and trustworthy. “He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will not be shaken” (Psalm 62:6).

Make it Personal

As things around you change and give way, how can you rest securely on our God, the Rock, who will never be shaken?
