For freedom, Christ set us free. —Galatians 5:1
Your day may not resemble a carefree stroll through a field of flowers, but your burden is meant to be light in Christ today because of the gift of salvation. Remember how this gift releases you to live freely. Without redemption through Christ, we are hopeless to fulfill our obligations to a holy God. Because of Christ’s perfect life and sacrifice, He finishes the work that we can’t. The Father forgives us when we surrender, declares us clean and accepted on account of Christ, and we are brought near. Nearness, friends, is a freedom we would not know but for the cross.
When our shortcomings today threaten to weigh us down, we return to this truth: We are set free from being judged according to our obedience, but are freed to obedience in love for a merciful Savior . . . You see, our freedom isn’t dependent on circumstances or our own performance today. We need not return to a burdensome yoke of striving and condemnation; instead, we run . . . and collapse into the field of grace that welcomes us into true freedom. 1
