Tethered to God

March 3, 2021 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. —Proverbs 18:10

Throughout Psalm 46, God is described as the Lord, the sovereign and most high God. But that’s not the only description we find.

In verses 7 and 11, He’s referred to as the Lord of Hosts, the Hebrew term Jehovah Sabaoth. That’s the military title for God, which describes Him as the commander of all the angelic hosts and armies of God. Then, again in these two verses, we see him called “the God of Jacob.” This is a wonderful reminder of Proverbs 18:10, where He is described as a tower—a place of protection—for us to run to in times of trouble.

The centrality of God in the midst of a topsy-turvy world is what keeps us sane. It’s what gives us our bearings and keeps us from going off the deep end as so many do because their lives are not tethered to God. Psalm 46 reminds us that it’s all about God. Our security in times of turmoil is found in Him and Him alone.
