Ten Times

April 20, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

In every matter of wisdom and understanding that the king consulted them about, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and mediums in his entire kingdom. —Daniel 1:20

From earth’s perspective, Daniel and his friends were nobodies. No sooner had they walked in the palace than they’d been assigned new Babylonian names. Everything involved in this forced reeducation program was designed to show the Hebrews that their old ways were outdated and their old God outmatched by Babylon and its gods, including Nebuchadnezzar who thought he was a god.

Nobody names their sons Nebuchadnezzar anymore. But they sure do call a lot of them Daniel. They do it because there’s something special about people who align themselves by faith with what God is doing. There’s something different about people who are so convinced God is ruling over the macro world that they can genuinely trust Him to supply and care for them in their micro world. There’s something “ten times” more notable about nobodies who only have one answer for what makes them stand out in ways that even the somebodies can’t help but notice, desire, and wonder about.
