Serve While You Wait

“Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son.” —Luke 1:13

When the angel appeared to Zechariah as he served in the temple, it would have been some time before Elizabeth knew the news. This was long before information spread with the click of a button. There was no way for her to know what was happening. She didn’t get to witness the angel visiting Zechariah—this first indication that the Lord had heard their prayers and was about to answer them.

Though the child growing in her womb was certainly cause for celebration, Elizabeth didn’t allow herself or her child to be the focus. As a woman who had faithfully served the Lord all her life, she would have known that a Messiah was coming. She was attuned enough to the things of God to recognize when He was on the way.

Right now, there are ways God is working in your life that you cannot see. As you face disappointments, trust that He is listening to your prayers and, like Elizabeth, stay focused on knowing and serving Him.

Make it Personal

While we wait for God’s hand to move, how can we avoid putting the focus on ourselves and our circumstances?
