Run to Him

April 29, 2021 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

God is . . . a very present help in trouble. —Psalm 46:1

When we see trouble coming, it’s easy to give in to fear rather than running to God. That’s not to say that our physical lives will necessarily be preserved. But as our soul takes refuge in the Lord, nothing can harm or damage us in that place of eternal refuge.

Part of God’s purpose in bringing desolations like tornadoes, earthquakes, or disease on the earth is so that His glory and power may be seen and people will come to a place of repentance and rightness with Him. Those who don’t know God don’t understand that these hardships are severe mercies intended to bring about redemption and salvation for the ultimate good of our souls and, even more than that, for His greater glory.

It’s a broken world, and there’s no promise that all those problems will be fixed when we trust in God our refuge. But there is a promise that our hearts will be safe and that we will have the help and the grace we need to endure even in the midst of that storm.
