Praying without Ceasing

December 18, 2023 Kim Cash Tate

The word of God is living and effective. —Hebrews 4:12

Regular time in the Word is what fuels my prayers and keeps me in a praying mindset. The Word of God is living and active and continues to work in our hearts and minds long after we’ve closed the Book and gone about our day. It shapes our words and our actions, guides our choices, and keeps our hearts lifted to God, to acknowledge and seek Him in all that arises.

Please don’t take this as over the top or super spiritual. It just happens. As with every aspect of our Christian walk, “praying without ceasing” is God’s grace at work, as He draws our thoughts toward Him. Remember—He wants us to talk to Him. And if Jesus calls us “friend” (John 15:15), there must be some way to tangibly experience that. He is Himself “the Word” (John 1:1), so staying in the Word and filling our thoughts with the Word enlivens the communication. Our lives become a living, breathing, ongoing dialogue with God. And there’s so much to talk to Him about in the normal course of a day.
