No Surprises

“Who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” —Esther 4:14

Trusting God to write your story is hard when all you can see ahead is darkness.

In the Bible, a young Jewish woman named Esther was forced to marry a heavy-drinking, easily angered, power-crazed king. He issued a foolish edict that threatened Esther’s people with annihilation. She couldn’t have been in worse circumstances!

But in the midst of the darkness, God was still in control. You see, heaven rules! An unseen hand controls those who think they exercise ultimate control. Kings and kingdoms, laws and decrees—these are all subject to the One who sits on the throne and reigns over all. No hu- man is powerful enough to thwart God’s plan.

In the end, God used Esther’s seemingly hopeless circumstances to carry out His plan to deliver His people.

No matter how dark your circumstances, you can know this: nothing that happens to you—no matter how wicked or painful—is a surprise to God. You can trust Him to write your story in whatever situation you’re facing today.

Make it Personal

How have you seen God work through seemingly hopeless circumstances? How does that help you with anything you’re currently experiencing?
