Live in Harmony

Live in harmony with one another. —Romans 12:16

The Bible is filled with instructions for how to live in light of God’s truth. Take for example, the apostle Paul’s words recorded in Romans 12:9–21. While the earlier chapters of Romans clearly outline the gospel, here Paul gets down to the brass tacks of how the gospel transforms our everyday lives.

Several “one anothers” made the list. There’s “love one another with brotherly affection” (v. 10), “outdo one another in showing honor” (v. 10), and finally, “live in harmony with one another” (v. 16).

Harmony—it’s a musical term that refers to a pleasing arrangement of parts. Harmony cannot come from a single note. It only happens when multiple notes are arranged together to create a seamless sound.

Since the gospel transforms us from sinners in need of a Savior to saints fully accepted by God, how should we then live? In harmony, laying aside our rights, our preferences, and our frustrations to live at peace with our brothers and sisters in Christ. When we do, our lives join together in a single song, declaring the wonder of God’s grace.
