The King Is Coming

May 17, 2021 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

Who is this who comes from Edom, in crimsoned garments from Bozrah, he who is splendid in his apparel, marching in the greatness of his strength? —Isaiah 63:1

Isaiah 63 is a passage you might not have read recently. On first reading, we tend to focus on the Lord’s vengeance against His enemies. However, as we study this passage more, we’ll see the underlying theme is one of hope.

As a watchman keeps watch on the city wall in verse 1, he sees someone approaching from Edom, someone splendid, great, and strong. This is a mighty warrior, a triumphant and conquering king. Although he’s been through a great battle, he’s not the least worn out. He’s still strong and powerful. We are seeing a Messianic vision—a picture of Christ, who is victorious over all His enemies.

Here is the One who has the power to save. He saves us from our enemies. He saves us from our sins. So, when you read about all the bad and evil things happening in our world today, remember, heaven rules! The King is coming to take over, and He will be victorious!
