Keep Walking

Walk by the Spirit. —Galatians 5:16

In Galatians 5, Paul calls us to walk by the Spirit. This isn’t one big moment in our lives but rather an hour-by-hour, minute-by-minute habit—just like walking.

Walking by the Spirit is letting the Spirit lead us to Jesus hour by hour. Yet sometimes we don’t let Him. We’re determined to do it on our own, or we’re too busy to hear His voice. But if in every challenge we face, we would just stop and pray, the Spirit would be able to lead us to Him.

God’s answer to our desire for lasting change isn’t a five-year plan; it’s a five-minute plan. It’s not providing what you need to make it to next year; it’s providing what you need to make it through today.

The five-year plan may make you feel safer, as it gives us more control. But after five years of self-dependent effort, you’ll realize you’re going in circles. However, if you choose to be content to walk in hourly dependence upon the Spirit of God, after five years you’ll realize you’ve made more progress than you thought was possible!

Make it Personal

What can you do to make it a habit to “walk by the Spirit” in all parts of daily life?
