Helping Our Children with Worry

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. —Isaiah 41:10

In the midst of the upheaval our world has experienced this past year, it’s easy for us to battle anxiety, no matter our age. So when it comes to helping my daughters handle worry, I’ve learned a few things.

Through some big events in our lives, I realized I need to check with my girls first about their worries. I often over-assume how much they were worried. So now I start by asking: “How are you feeling?” “Is anything bothering you?” “Are you worried about ____ situation?”

This came about because once when my husband and I were praying over a situation yet again, asking the Lord for help, the girls quietly said, “Why are you this worried about it? We prayed about it this morning, and we prayed about it yesterday.” They weren’t very worried because we didn’t seem very worried!

Whatever my daughters are facing, I love telling them that Jesus is bigger. He can conquer the situation, no matter what it is.

Make it Personal

How can you point your children, grandchildren, or other children in your life to the fact that Jesus is bigger than their worries?
