He Wins!

God, be exalted above the heavens; let your glory be over the whole earth. —Psalm 57:5

At the beginning of Psalm 46, the nations and the earth both posed a threat. The nations raged; the earth gave way. But by verse 10 they have become a stage on which the power and glory of God are displayed, as He is “exalted among the nations, exalted on the earth.” That earth and those nations have now been brought under the control of the sovereign Lord of the universe, and they are serving His purposes.

Commentator Matthew Henry had this to say:

Let his enemies be still and threaten no more, but know it, to their terror, that he is God, one infinitely above them. . . . Let his own people be still; let them be calm and sedate, and tremble no more, but know, to their comfort, that the Lord is God, he is God alone, and will be exalted above the heathen. 5

God says, “I will be exalted.” The outcome isn’t in question. The last chapter has been written, and we know who wins!
