He Is the King!

January 16, 2021 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm! —Psalm 47:7

In the book of Esther, King Xerxes is an angry, cruel, and vindictive man. And as we look around in our world today, sometimes it seems like that’s who’s running things—angry and evil people. And sometimes it can also seem like that’s who’s running our personal lives.

You might have grown up with, married, or worked for someone like this. In God’s Providence, sometimes He allows ungodly people to be in charge. When this happens, it’s easy to lose hope or think nothing will ever be different.

But remember, the final chapter hasn’t been written yet. The success of the ungodly is short-lived. God is able to rule and to overrule over the decrees of even wicked men because He is the King of all the earth (Psalm 47:7). He rules; He reigns; He is still sovereign. In the end, King Xerxes’s pride became a set-up for God to demonstrate His power and His kingdom, which rules over all kings and kingdoms of this earth.

Make it Personal

Think about a time when you were impacted by someone whose actions were ungodly or unfair. How can you see evidence of God’s hand?
