Giving Thanks for Unanswered Prayers

November 22, 2023 Elba de Reyes

“Can a woman forget her nursing child, or lack compassion for the child of her womb? Even if these forget, yet I will not forget you.” —Isaiah 49:15

When a mother cares for her children, she protects them from danger. She prevents them from eating everything they want. She tenderly guides them along certain paths but in other instances closes the door to avoid harm.

This is an illustration of how our heavenly Father listens to our prayers and answers them in His own time.

My prayers are before God’s throne, but He’s not limited by my time. To Him one day is as a thou- sand years, and a thousand years as one day (2 Pet. 3:8). Sometimes He will open the way for me, and other times He closes the door to avoid danger. Or He will wait for me to get stronger so I can walk that trail. His goal, however, is not my happiness but His glory.

As you wait on answers from God, may you learn to give thanks for what He doesn’t answer for your good, trusting in His great love for you and in His care
