Eye Problems

The Lord God is a sun and shield. The Lord grants favor and honor; he does not withhold the good from those who live with integrity. —Psalm 84:11

Several months ago, one of my eyes became extremely irritated and I began to have prob- lems wearing my contact lens. My eye doctor discovered the lens had been damaged and to restore my vision, it had to be replaced with a new one.

What we believe about God is crucial because it affects what we believe about everything else. A damaged view of God will distort the way we see everything around us. Frequently we fail to realize that what is causing the irritation and turmoil within our souls is not the people or the circumstances we think are annoying us; rather the problem is that we are seeing things through a damaged lens.

One of the areas that is particularly impacted by our view of God is our view of ourselves. If we do not see Him as He really is—if we believe things about Him that are not true—invariably, we will have a distorted view of ourselves.

Make it Personal

Take time to reflect on what you think about God—and how you see yourself. Is it correct or distorted?
