Don’t Forget

January 12, 2024 Erin Davis

Whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that we may have hope through endurance and through the encouragement from the Scriptures. —Romans 15:4

Several years ago I noticed that some of the books of my Bible had lots of notes and some had none. I made a headline in my Bible that said, “The Forgotten Books.” Then I flipped to the table of contents. With my Bible and journal open, I prayed and asked the Lord to show me which books of my Bible I had never studied.

It turns out there were plenty of books I’d avoided to study. As I mined these previously unearthed books over the next several years, I always found treasure. God used this exercise to develop my commitment to know all of the Bible and to stop skipping around to the parts I like and understand easily. It’s a commitment that has revolutionized both my personal study of God’s Word and my understanding of who God is.

When it comes to God’s Word, which books have you forgotten? Start digging and watch the picture of God your study will reveal.
