“The day of vengeance was in my heart, and my year of redemption had come.” —Isaiah 63:4
A lot of people don’t like the idea of a Jesus who has vengeance in His heart. But Isaiah 63:4 helps us stand back and fill out the picture.
When Jesus came to this earth the first time, He came as a small baby. He grew up to be a man and offered Himself up as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. However, when Christ returns at the appointed day of judgment He will come in great power and strength to take vengeance on all who have rebelled against His holy Father.
The wrath of the Lamb is just. He has offered salvation, and He has been spurned and rebelled against time after time. Therefore, a day will come when all of God’s enemies experience the ultimate destruction.
Christ judges even nations for their rebellion against Him and for their treatment of His people. And in so doing, He ushers in the year of redemption, where He brings relief and salvation to His own people.
