Beautiful Display

Women are to dress themselves in modest clothing . . . not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive apparel. —1 Timothy 2:9

Is it wrong for women to pursue beauty? I would argue it’s an integral part of our wiring. God creates and appreciates beauty and has created us to long for and appreciate it too.

I think the problem isn’t that we value beauty too much but that we don’t value it enough. When we consider the jaw-dropping beauty portrayed throughout Scripture, it would seem our desire for beauty isn’t too strong but too weak.

We try to doll ourselves up with the superficial and temporal, while the supernatural and eternal is offered us. The reason women are so obsessed with cosmetics, creams, and diets is that they have an insufficient understanding of true beauty and their hearts haven’t been gripped by a more compelling vision.

A godly woman has been gripped with a more awesome vision of beauty. She’s caught a glimpse of Christ, and it’s taken her breath away. Displaying that beauty has become more important and desirable to her than pursuing the fleeting beauty of the world.

Make it Personal

Ask God to give you a clearer vision of the awesome beauty offered through Christ and to help you display that beauty.
