Be Still

November 15, 2022 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” —Psalm 46:10 ESV

The above verse is a popular phrase from the Bible. But did you know it was written in a context a lot like ours? It’s from Psalm 46, which says, “Nations rage; kingdoms topple” (v. 6). It describes great international turmoil.

But God is involved in the world. Verse 9 says, “He makes wars cease throughout the earth. He shatters bows and cuts spears to pieces.” That’s a promise that one day God will bring an end to all war.

So what are we to do in the meantime? Let go. Don’t try to take control or figure everything out. Turn off the TV or put down the newspaper. Get on your knees with God’s Word open in front of you, and be still. Listen to what God has to say. Remind yourself of the things that you know to be true.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” When was the last time you were still before Him?

Make it Personal

When you hear about things in the world that are unsettling, focus instead on God’s promises.
