A Surrendered Servant

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” —Mark 10:45

We all know that Jesus was the perfect picture of a surrendered servant when He was here on earth. But did you realize that Jesus will remain the surrendered servant for eternity?

The Gospel of Luke gives us a moving picture of what will happen when Christ comes again. It says, “Truly I tell you, he will get ready, have them recline at the table, then come and serve them” (12:37).

Can you imagine that? The King and Lord of the universe will put on a servant’s uniform and wait on us. It takes my breath away.

Do you ever get tired of serving others? Maybe picking up after your kids has become a chore. Or maybe you’re caring for an elderly parent who doesn’t seem to appreciate it. Be encouraged! You’re never more like Jesus than when you surrender your own rights and take the role of a servant.

How does reflecting on Christ’s role as a servant encourage you as you serve others?
