A Greater End

April 23, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” —Matthew 5:16

You may be young or old; single, married, divorced or widowed; a student, housewife, or corporate executive . . . regardless of your particular circumstance, God wants you to recognize the value of the home. It isn’t just a place to eat, sleep and hang your coat—it’s an important venue for doing good works. He wants you to have a vision for the vital role your home can play in furthering the kingdom of God.

Home is not an end in itself and should not be idolized or upheld as the ultimate goal. It is simply a means to a much greater end.

The reason we should give priority to managing household responsibilities is not because vacu- uming, dusting, or cooking are intrinsically valuable or satisfying tasks. It’s because we want to create a peaceful, orderly, welcoming environment conducive to nurturing and growing disciples for the kingdom of God. Our homes provide a needed and powerful setting for serving others and advancing the work of His kingdom.
