Read through the Bible, Day 283

Good morning. These final chapters of Matthew reveal the profound climax of God’s redemptive plan. Jesus willingly lays down His life in obedience to the Father, yet His story doesn’t end in the grave. After His victorious resurrection, He commissions His disciples, assuring them, “I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:20).

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

Matthew 27–28

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

What part of today’s reading most draws your heart to praise Jesus? Take a moment to rejoice in Him.

Jesus did not die as a helpless victim or even a passive martyr. Rather, we are told, “He yielded up his spirit.” He died as a voluntary act of His will, in obedience to the Father. He placed His life on the altar—willingly, consciously giving it up as a sacrifice. —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
