Read through the Bible, Day 148

In today’s reading, the king issues a new decree allowing the Jews to defend themselves, leading to their victory over their enemies. The book concludes with the establishment of the festival of Purim to celebrate their deliverance. It also records Mordecai’s rise to prominence and the continued honor and security of God’s people in the kingdom.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

Esther 8–10

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

Throughout the book of Esther, the Lord’s name is never mentioned, yet His sovereign hand is evident in every verse. Take some time to note several instances where the Lord worked through the lives of others to accomplish His purposes and protect His people.

"Mordecai’s watchful care over Esther is a picture of God who is the Keeper of those who belong to Him. Though often unseen by us, God’s care is certain. He is working behind the scenes, putting everything in place. And in time, He will be the means of upending our enemy’s objectives and fulfilling God’s holy purpose for our lives." —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
