Read through the Bible, Day 145

In Nehemiah 11–13, we read about the dedication of Jerusalem’s completed wall and Nehemiah’s ongoing efforts to guide the people toward renewed faithfulness. As he confronted disobedience and restored proper worship, Nehemiah’s heart remained steadfast before the Lord. The book concludes with his humble plea: “Remember me, my God, with favor.”

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

Nehemiah 11–13

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

Nehemiah repeatedly confronts sin among God’s people. In your own life, where do you sense the need for renewed obedience to God’s Word?

"Unbelievably, by the time Nehemiah returned, this sworn enemy of God was actually living in the temple. This was in direct violation of God’s command. . . . Yet there Tobiah was, living in a room that had been given to him by the priest. Undoubtedly, this change of affairs did not take place overnight. More likely, one compromise led to another and another." —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
