Today’s passage tells how the people rebuilt Jerusalem’s walls despite opposition and threats from their enemies. When the work was completed, Nehemiah established order and security within the city. He appointed leaders and gatekeepers and recorded the genealogies of those who had returned from exile, organizing the community to live once again as God’s people.

Reflect
When Nehemiah and the people faced opposition, they prayed and set guards. Where in your own life are you tempted to rely solely on your own effort instead of seeking God in prayer?
