Temptation and Praise

Leslie Basham: This is Seeking Him, with Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.

Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: In Matthew 4, Jesus models a powerful way to respond to temptation. Satan tempted Jesus to fall down and worship him. Jesus responded, “You shall worship the LORD your God.” The moment Jesus showed His commitment to worship, the Bible says, “the devil left him.”

Praise defeats Satan. He hates God and anything that pleases God. One of his strategies is to get us to focus on ourselves—our needs, our problems, circumstances, and feelings. But when we lift our eyes, even though they may be filled with tears, and choose to praise the Lord, Satan’s plan is defeated and God is victorious in our lives.

Are you being tormented with fears and doubts? Bombarded with temptations? Try praising the Lord, and watch Satan flee.

With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
