Empty Words

Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Walk into a Christian bookstore today, and you’ll probably find a modern example of a problem Ezekiel addressed.

The prophet said, “With lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad . . . and you have strengthened the hands of the wicked, so that he does not turn from his wicked way” (13:22).

Sadly, I think that many of today’s Christian authors, speakers, and counselors are “strengthening the hands of the wicked” by telling people they don’t need to repent for sin. They don’t intend to deceive, but their teachings, for example, justify anger . . .

Man 1: Actually, it’s healthy to go ahead and express your feelings.

Nancy: . . . and selfishness . . .

Man 2: You’ve got to put boundaries between you and demanding people.

Nancy: . . . irresponsibility.

Woman: You have every right to act that way; you’ve been wounded by others.

Nancy: We need to constantly be asking ourselves, What’s the message here? What does the Bible say? Remember what Paul said? “Let no one deceive you with empty words" (Eph. 5:6).

With Seeking Him, I'm Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
