Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Our Founding Fathers laid out some fundamental rights.
Man 1: We have the right to free speech!
Man 2: The right to assemble!
Nancy: Claiming of rights is in the air we breathe. And even though we would never put these into words, deep down, we think we have some other rights, too.
Woman 1: Oh, I do have a right to a good night's sleep; I'm just saying that right now.
Woman 2: I have the right to be happy!
Woman 3: A right to time off and vacation days!
Woman 4: Hey! I have a right to get some help around this house!
Nancy: Now the truth is, we deserve punishment. Romans 5 reminds us that we were once God’s enemies. Thankfully, He didn’t give us what we rightfully deserved. Instead, He showed us mercy. Everything we have is a gift from Him.
In response, we need to yield our rights back to Him. The next time you feel your rights have been violated, remember what you deserve, and try thanking God for His incredible mercy and grace.
