Dannah Gresh: Hey mom, are you ever tempted to ride your teen’s emotional rollercoaster? Melissa Krueger understands, and she wants to encourage you.

Melissa Krueger: It is actually a huge weight if someone thinks that your happiness is dependent upon them. Don't set your hope on your child and how they're doing. Set your hope on an object that can actually hold it.

Dannah: This is the Revive Our Hearts podcast with Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, author of Heaven Rules, for August 20, 2026. I’m Dannah Gresh.

Questions Answered in This Episode

How can parents build a strong relationship with their teenagers while still setting boundaries?

Parents can combine warmth and connection with clear expectations. Loving teens well does not mean removing rules or accountability. Instead, parents can show kindness, spend meaningful time together, and create a home where teens know they are loved while still providing biblical guidance and appropriate boundaries.

Why is conversation important when guiding teenagers through decisions?

As children grow, parents can invite them into conversations rather than relying only on commands. Asking questions and listening helps parents understand what their teens are thinking while teaching teens how to make wise decisions. It also helps them learn the difference between unchanging biblical truth and family rules or preferences that may change.

How should parents respond when their teenager experiences difficulties or doubts about faith?

Parents can remain calm, keep communication open, and point their teens to the Lord. Difficulties can help teens learn to depend on God, while questions about faith can become opportunities for meaningful conversations and deeper understanding. Rather than responding out of fear, parents can listen, learn alongside their teens, and trust God with their spiritual growth.
