A Word of Confidence

April 9, 2021 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last. —Luke 23:46

How remarkable that our Lord, maker of heaven and earth, would willingly allow Himself to fall into the hands of His own creation—to be tortured, persecuted, reviled, and ultimately executed. Yet here, with His final breath, He makes it clear that He hasn’t died a martyr’s death at the hands of men. His life—like ours—is in the “hands” of God.

We so often find ourselves chafing against second causes—those people, circumstances, and events that seem to be wrecking our lives. But ultimately, we’re not in the hands of other people. We’re not in the hands of chance or circumstance. As children of God, saved by His perfect sacrifice, our lives are in the safe care and keeping of our heavenly Father, and no one is able to “snatch” us from those hands (John 10:28).

Find rest in this assurance today. Find hope in the midst of opposition, confusion, and despair. There is life in these hands. Eternal life. Even in death.
