Willing to Hear

December 20, 2022 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

I call on you, God, because you will answer me; listen closely to me; hear what I say. —Psalm 17:6

You know what it’s like to navigate through an automated phone system, spending several minutes concentrating on instructions such as “For billing questions, press 1.” After pushing multiple buttons, you may have to hold for several more minutes while waiting to speak with a living human being.

Think about how many people you’re waiting on right now. How much of your email is stuck in a friend’s inbox, still unopened? How many times have you left a voicemail, saying, “Please call me back,” only to be ignored?

If it’s so difficult to talk with customer service representatives or even friends, consider how amazing it is that the God of the universe is eager to talk with you at any time. Earthly failures to communicate should remind us of how amazing it is that God is willing to hear and answer our prayers. He has no automated phone system to send you in circles. He has no assistant who answers mail and runs interference. God is available to you right now.

Make it Personal

Thank the Lord that He’s always available to hear your prayers— and pour out your heart before Him.
