A Way Out of the Pit

August 11, 2020 Kelly Needham

By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing. —Ephesians 2:8

Imagine you fell into a deep pit. You’re stuck. After trying hard to get out, you realize that won’t work, so you cry for help.

A man sees you and says, “I’ve known people who have been in this pit before and how they got out. If you just feel around, you’ll find spots where you can pull yourself up.”

You try to climb, but you can’t get out. In your exhaustion, you realize there’s another man standing there. He says, “I know a man whose job it is to get people out of pits. Let me go get him.”

Both men brought good news. Both men said, “There’s a way to get out.” The first man’s good news was a plan: “Here’s what you can do to solve your problem.” The second man’s was a person: “Here’s someone who can save you!”

I have good news for you. There’s a way out of the pit; there’s hope for lasting change. But it’s not a plan; it’s a Person. His name is Jesus.

Make it Personal

Thank God that our hope for salvation and lasting change is not our own efforts but Christ alone.
