Trusting in the Waiting

December 10, 2020 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“Wait, my daughter, until you learn how the matter turns out, for the man will not rest but will settle the matter today.” —Ruth 3:18

Waiting is hard. And when it comes to waiting on God to work in our lives, it can feel like a painfully slow process.

In the life of Ruth, God’s work was apparent. He rescued her and her mother-in-law, Naomi, from famine. He provided for them after their husbands died. He brought Ruth and Boaz together, but He didn’t do it overnight. At times, Ruth must have felt that her story would never have a happy ending.

Naomi counseled Ruth, “Wait, my daughter, until you learn how the matter turns out, for the man will not rest but will settle the matter today.” And what wise counsel this is for every moment of perplexity and every apparent dead end we face. Wait until you see how things go. Christ—our heavenly Boaz—is at work, and He won’t rest until He has resolved the matter in a way that will best meet your needs and showcase His glory.
