Daily Reflections

This Year and Every Year

His mercy is from generation to generation on those who fear him. —Luke 1:50

The unchangeable aspect of God’s nature is something we need to be reminded of frequently. For even though Christmas can be predictable in its repeated traditions, it comes and finds us a year older now, perhaps in a different context. And if we don’t like our circumstances, it’s easy to conclude that it’s too late for God to change the ones that could be changed.

I’ve always loved reading books on the lives of great people of God from past generations. Although they, too, were saved sinners who experienced good days and bad, their overall example speaks to what God can do through anyone who puts their whole trust in Him.

As you read this, behold your God. Behold Him more than a hundred years ago meeting the needs of His children who feared and trusted Him. Behold Him, because one of those children is you. The times and names have changed, but God hasn’t changed. As He has provided for past generations, so will He provide for us today . . . and to every generation.

Make it Personal

Take today’s verse and turn it into a prayer, asking God to help you be aware of His faithfulness in this generation.
